14 Day Mixed Veterinary Outreach Program
Participants will experience the ‘real’ South Africa; working in poor communities to provide treatment to a variety of species that otherwise receive no veterinary treatment, and discovering different South African cultures, visiting commercial farms with large animals in the area and working on game reserves with African wildlife.
Not a vet student? NOT A PROBLEM.
Whether you’re a veterinary student, vet nurse, vet tech, or simply someone with a burning desire to work closely with wildlife, this program offers an exceptional opportunity to expand your knowledge and make unforgettable memories.
The objective of the program is to provide hands-on experience in as many areas of the veterinary field as possible, including the following main areas: Community, Farm and African Wildlife.
This part of the program really allows you to make a difference in South Africa through work in poor communities that have no other access to veterinary care, as well as getting an amazing insight into the culture of the local Shangaan people. Work in townships is mostly with dogs, donkies, cattle, goats and a few cats, with work in rural communities including dogs, cattle, pigs, goats, horses and sheep.
Participants will learn how to handle these animals safely, how to treat and prevent both ecto-parasites and endo-parasites, practice treating wounds and small injuries, and will also play a role in educating owners.
Participants will be visiting farms with large animals in the area and also working on game reserves with African wildlife!
Our program is not only an adventure of a lifetime but also a chance to make a genuine impact. You will actively participate in a variety of tasks, including animal health checks, treatments, relocation etc. Under the guidance of our experienced vets, you’ll learn how to handle different species, administer medications, and assist in vital conservation efforts.
But it’s not all work and no play! Our program includes thrilling adventures and unforgettable excursions. Explore breathtaking national parks, embark on exhilarating game drives, and witness the wonders of wildlife in their natural habitats and forge lifelong friendships with fellow participants who share your passion for animals.
